Question
The ratio of zinc and copper in an alloy is 7 : 9. If the weight of copper in the alloy is 12.6 kg, find the weight of zinc in it.
Solution
The ratio of zinc and copper in an alloy is = 7:9
Let the weight of zinc and copper in it be (7x) and (9x), respectively.
Now, the weight of a copper = 12.6 kg (given)
∴ 9x = 12.6
⇒ x = `12.6/9` = 1.4
∴ Weight of zinc = 7x = 7 × 1.4 = 9.8 kg
