Question
The string of a kite is 100 metres long and it makes an angle of 60° with the horizontal. Find the height of the kite, assuming that there is no slack in the string. `["Use"sqrt3 = 1.73]`
Sum
Solution
`sin theta = "opposite"/"hypotenuse"`
here, θ = 60∘
Hypotenuse = 100 m
Opposite side = h (height of the kite)
sin 60° = `h/100`
sin 60° = `sqrt3/2`
`sqrt3/2 = h/100`
`h = 100 xx sqrt3/2`
`h = 50 xx sqrt3`
h = 50 × 1.73
h = 86.5 m
