Questions
Two waves of the same pitch have amplitudes in the ratio 1 : 3 What will be the ratio of their
- loudness,
- pitch?
Two waves of the same pitch have amplitudes in the ratio 1 : 3. What will be the ratio of their
- loudness, and
- frequencies ?
Solution
- Loudness ∝ (amplitude)2
Loudness is proportional to amplitude square Ratio of loudness = `"L"_1/"L"_2 =((a_1)^2)/((a_2)^2)`
= `(1)^2/(3)^2 = 1\/9`
= 1: 9 - Frequency of the sound wave has no effect on amplitude.
so, frequency remains the same if the pitch is unchanged.
∴ `"Pitch of first wave"/"Pitch of second wave"`=`1/1`
= 1 :1
