What are the problems of jute industry?

(i) Problems of raw material: After Independence 70% of the jute producing areas went to Bangladesh. Thus the jute industry suffers from inadequate supply of raw jute.
(ii) Competition from Bangladesh: Besides Philippines, Brazil, Egypt have also.taken up jute industry.
(iii) Competition from substitutes: like paper, cloth, sisal, hemp.
(iv) Machinery is outdated and labour problems.
