What are Resources? How they are classified based on their availability? Give examples.
Solution
(i) Natural resources are the matter or energy obtained from the environment used by living things including human beings.
(ii) Natural resources include air, water, soil, minerals, fossil, fuels, plants, wildlife, etc.
(iii) They are classified on several bases. Based on continued availability the resources are classified into two types:
Renewable Resources:-
The resources which have natural regeneration after their utilization. Eg: Solar energy, Wind energy, Biogas, tidal energy, wave energy, etc
Non-Renewable Resources:-
The resources cannot be replaced again after utilization.
Eg: Minerals like Coal, Petroleum, Natural gas, Iron ore, Manganese, Bauxite, etc.
(iv) Many natural resources are used as raw materials and they play a vital role in the economic development of a region.
