Action of HNO3 (strong oxidising agent) :- Nitric acid is a strong agent. It oxidizes both the terminal group(-CHO and -CH2OH) of glucose to give a dicarboxylic acid i.e. gluconic acid (saccharic acid) containing same number of carbon atom.
