Question
What is called thermolysis reactions?
Solution
A chemical reaction is a process in which an old bond breaks up and a new chemical bond gets formed. Thermolysis chemical reactions are a special type of chemical reaction in which the reactant gets decomposed by heat. For example,
\[\ce{CaCO3_{(s)}⇌[Heat]CaO_{(s)} + CO2_{(g)}}\]
\[\ce{2HgO_{(s)} ->[Heat]2Hg_{(l)} + O2_{(g)}}\]
In these reactions, heat is supplied to break the bonds, so generally, they are endothermic in nature.
