Why do arteries have thick and elastic walls whereas veins have valves?
Solution
The blood emerges from the heart under high pressure and flows through arteries. Hence, to bear this pressure the arteries have thick and elastic walls. Veins have valves to ensure that the blood flows in one direction only.
