Question
Why do the following occur?
Soil degradation.
Short Answer
Solution
- To obtain a higher agricultural yield, chemical fertilizers, insecticides, weedicides, and irrigation technique is used.
- However, the excessive spraying of chemical fertilizers leads to soil degradation. In such a condition, the proportion of humus in soil decreases, and the pH value of soil gets disturbed.
- Excessive irrigation draws the salt from the soil upwards and makes the soil saline and then unproductive. Thus, soil degradation occurs due to chemicals, chemical fertilizers, and excessive irrigation.
