Question
Why were Faraday’s drawings not accepted?
Does it mean they were wrong?
Solution
- Faraday was not familiar with sophisticated mathematics. So he created hundreds of iron filing patterns (drawings).
- However, he was unable to provide mathematical explanations, and the paintings lacked equations. So they were not accepted.
- It does not imply that they were wrong. Furthermore, when Maxwell converted his ideas and drawings into a set of equations, they were proven correct.
