Question
With reference to Littoral forest, answer the following questions:
Why do the trees in this forest grow aerial roots?
Solution
The underground root system requires oxygen. Trees of the littoral forests have aerial roots because these are found in wet and marshy regions. The soil is not able to support the underground root system, and hence, they grow vertically up to the air above the soil.
