Role of Sufism:
- It fostered the feelings of Hindu-Muslim unity.
- Sufism made its influence on the poets of the period, like Amir Khusro and Malik Muhammed Javasi, who composed poems in Persian and Hindi in praise of Sufi principles.
Role of Bhakti Movement:
- Bhakti saints preached universal brotherhood and emphasized equality’ of all men.
- The Bhakti saints preached in the language of the people. Languages such as Hindi, Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Oriya became popular. Among important literary works of this period was Ramcharit Manas by Tulsidas, Gurmukhi literature of the Sikh Gurus, and the Vaishnava literature in Bengal.
