Dhundiraj Govind Phalke alias Dadasaheb Phalke (Born : Trimbakeshwar, Maharashtra, - Nashik, 16 February 1944). Dhundiraj Govind Phalke was the first person from Maharashtra and India to produce films and is considered the father of Indian films. The silent film Raja Harishchandra produced by him in 1913 is the first film in the history of Marathi and Indian cinema. In his 19-year career till 1937, he produced 95 films and 26 short films. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest award in Indian cinema, is given to Indian actors for their lifetime contribution to cinema. Dadasaheb Phalke was the father of Indian cinema, an Indian film producer, director and screenwriter. In short, he is also known as Film Maharshi.
