1. Alzheimer's disease is the most frequent type of dementia.
2. As people get older, their cognitive functioning, thinking, memory, reasoning, and behavioural abilities deteriorate, interfering with their daily lives.
3. It is caused by the death of cholinergic and other neurons in the CNS, as well as the deposition of amyloid proteins.
4. There is no cure, although treatment can reduce disease development and improve quality of life.
