Write a note on the Khilafat Movement.
Solution
After World War I, the Caliph of Turkey, who was considered the head of Muslims all over the world, was given a very harsh treatment. The Khilafat Movement started in support of the Caliph. It was led by Maulana Mohamed Ali and Maulana Shaukat Ali, popularly known as the Ali brothers. It aimed to restore the prestige and power of the Caliphate. Mahatma Gandhi supported the movement and saw it as an opportunity to unite the Hindus and the Muslims.
