Mahabaleshwar-the Jewel of the Sahyadris

Mahabaleshwar is a popular hill station in the Sahyadris in Maharashtra. It is about 4710 ft above sea level.

(1) Ways to reach: Mahabaleshwar is well-connected by road. ST buses, as well as private buses, ply there from Mumbai and Pune. It is easily accessible by car too. Time taken from Mumbai is anywhere between six to eight hours.

(2) Sight-seeing spots: Pratapgarh, Venna Lake, Lingamala Falls, Lodwick Point. Wilson Point, Kate's Point, Arthur's Seat, Mapro Garden, etc.

Shopping - In the main bazaars. Sarees, shawls, bedcovers and bedsheets, blankets. etc. Famous for fruits like strawberries, mulberries, and cherries.

(3) Most suitable time for visits: October to June. The adventurous can try going during the monsoon when there are very heavy rains.

(4) Accommodation available: Plenty of hotels, right from budget hotels to the five-star ones. Advisable to book beforehand, especially during the season.

Mahabaleshwar can be extremely expensive and crowded during the peak season between April 15 to June 15 and during Diwali. Weekends too tend to be very crowded.
