1. Geographic information is essential for historical studies. Encyclopaedias giving information about Historical places are available. These encyclopaedias are called Sthalakosh.
2. ‘Sthanapothi’ composed by Muni Vyas of the Mahanubhav sect in 14th century C.E. is an encyclopaedic text that describes the places visited by Chakradhar Swami, the founder of the Mahanubhav sect. This text gives us a hint about Maharashtra in those days.
3. As it gives details of the place, time, and background of the events described in the Leelacharitra, it serves as an important source for writing about the life of Chakradhar Swami.
4. In 1969, Siddheshwarshastri Chitrav compiled the encyclopaedia, viz., ‘Prachin Bharatiya Sthalakosh’.
