Question
Write a note on Visco-elastic state.
Solution
Viscoelasticity is the property of materials that exhibit both viscous and elastic characteristics when undergoing deformation. Viscous materials, like honey, resist shear flow and strain linearly with time when a stress is applied. Viscoelasticity is a molecular rearrangement. When a stress is applied to a viscoelastic material such as a polymer, parts of a long polymer chain change position a Is. Synthetic polymers, woods and human tissues, as well as metals at high temperature, show significant viscoelasticity.
PROPERTIES:
• They behave like an elastic material as well as viscous material when stress is applied.
• They dissipate energy in form of heat when a load is applied and then removed.
USES:
• They are used for isolation vibration.
• They are used for dampening noise.
