Transportation is one of the most important types of tertiary economic activities. The majority of these activities fall under the service category. The finish product of the industries need to transport in the market, hence transportation plays an important role in the development of country. Transportation is the service or facility used to move people, freight, and industrial goods from one location to another. Development of all economic activities is dependent on transportation system.

1. Means of transportation can be divided into three major categories based on the medium They are (a) Land (b) Water (c) Air.
2. Each mode has its own requirements and features and adapted to serve the specific demands of freight and passenger traffic. This gives rise to marked differences in the ways, these means are deployed and utilized in different parts of the world.
3. The growth of transportation is governed by several geographical considerations. Relief, location and weather are the three main physical aspects.
4. Water transport is the cheapest mode of transport. Major trade happens through ocean routes. E.g. North Atlantic Ocean route is the busi!=St ocean route in the world.
5. Air transportation is the fastest mode of transportation. E.g. London, Mumbai, Singapore are the busiest airports in the world.
