Right to information:

1. Citizens have a right to know about the functioning of the government.
2. The Government of India gave the Right to Information to the citizens of India to ensure transparency and accountability which are the hallmarks of good governance.
3. Right to Information has made the government more transparent and has reduced the element of secrecy in the working of the government.
4. After the year 2000, the whole approach toward democratic reforms changed. Democratic reforms are considered the ‘rights’ of citizens.
5. Accordingly, citizens in India have got Right to Information, education, and food security. These rights have strengthened democracy in India.

The Right to Information (RTI): was established in 2005. Citizen empowerment is an important component of democracy. It provides citizens with the opportunity to participate in and interact with the government. Increased communication between citizens and the government aids in the establishment of democracy. It contributes to the development of a trusting relationship between the government and the citizens. The right to information reduces the role of society in the functioning of government. RTI ensures transparency and accountability, two characteristics of good governance.
