Define 'bandwidth' and describe briefly its importance in communicating signals ?

Bandwidth is the range of frequency over which an equipment operates or the part of the spectrum occupied by the signal.
In the communication system, the message signal may be voice, music, pictures or computer data. Each signal has a different range of frequency. Hence, it has a different bandwidth. The type of communication for a given signal depends on the band of frequency that is considered essential for the communication.
