Akbar and Birbal – The Clever Answer

King Akbar asked a hard question in his court one day. He wanted to see how smart his ministers were. He said, "How many crows are there in my kingdom?"

In the court, everyone was lost. They didn't know what to say so they just looked at each other. Then Birbal, the smartest minister, stood up and said, "Your Majesty, there are exactly 1,25,365 crows in your kingdom."

"How can you be so sure?" Akbar asked in shock.

I told him with a smile, "If you don't believe me, count them." If you find more, it means that crows from kingdoms nearby have come to visit. Not as many will mean that some crows have gone to see family in other places.

When Akbar heard this clever and funny answer, he laughed out loud and praised Birbal's cleverness.

Birbal’s Khichdi

Akbar the Great and Birbal were walking by a lake one winter night. He said, "A man who can spend the whole night standing in this cold water will be rewarded."

The next day, a poor person took up the dare. He stood in the lake all night in the cold. He was taken to see the Emperor in the morning. He asked, "How did you manage to stay in the cold water all night?"

"I was looking at a faraway lamp, and it gave me hope," the man said.

When Akbar heard this, he said, "The lamp then warmed you." "You don't deserve a reward."

The man thought he was lied to and left. When Birbal saw this, he called Akbar over for dinner. While making khichdi, he put the pot very high above the fire. "How will the khichdi cook from so far away?" Akbar asked.

"If a lamp can warm a man standing in cold water, why can't this fire cook the khichdi?" Birbal asked with a smile.

Akbar saw what he had done wrong and gave the poor man a prize.

The Wisest of All

A learned person came to Akbar's court one day. He said he could speak every language and dared Birbal. He stated, "If you can find out my mother tongue, I will accept you as the wisest man in the kingdom."

Before going to sleep that night, Birbal walked up to the teacher and whispered something in his ear. Something was said by the professor while he was sleeping.

Birbal told her the next day, "Your first language is Tamil."

The professor was shocked and asked, "How did you find out?"

Birbal said, "When a man is afraid or sleepy, he speaks in his mother tongue."

Akbar was happy with how smart Birbal was.

The Foolish Brahmin

The priest came to Akbar's court one day and said, "I can talk to the dead." "Do you think he is telling the truth?" Akbar asked Birbal because he was interested.

He said, "Let's test him." It was his grandfather who had died a few years before. Could you ask him where he kept his treasure?"

In a fake voice, the Brahmin told the man, "Your grandfather says the treasure is buried under a tree in your garden."

He laughed and said, "You're not telling the truth!" My grandfather couldn't hear. What did he say to you?"

The Brahmin didn't know what to say, so he ran away.

Birbal’s List of Fools

Akbar's court was once visited by a trader who was upset: "Your Majesty, I gave a traveller 100 gold coins to keep safe, and now he has disappeared."

It made Akbar very angry, so he asked, "How could you trust a stranger with your gold?"

The tiger laughed and brought a big book. He began to write the merchant's name in the book. The shop owner asked, "What are you doing?"

"I am making a list of the stupidest people in the kingdom," Birbal said. You gave your gold to someone you didn't know. Wow, that makes you a fool!"

"But what if the traveller comes back with my money?" asked the shopkeeper.

He smiled and said, "Then I'll take off your name and write his name instead!"

The court and Akbar laughed out loud.
