प्रश्न

Find the overall order of the following reactions:
1. CHCl3(g) + Cl2(g) → CCl4(g) + HCl(g), Rate = k[CHCl3][Cl2]
2. 2NO(g) + O2(g) → 2NO2(g),  Rate = k[NO]2[O2]

उत्तर

1. Overall order of reaction for
CHCl3(g) + Cl2(g) → CCl4(g) + HCl(g)
Rate = k [CHCl3][Cl2]
The reaction is first order with respect to CHCl3 and first order with respect to Cl2.
Hence, the overall order of reaction is 1 + 1 = 2.

2. Overall order of reaction for
2NO(g) + O2(g) → 2NO2(g)
Rate = k [NO]2 [O2]
The reaction is second order with respect to NO and first order with respect to O2.
Hence, the overall order ofreaction is 2 + 1 = 3.
