1. Due to social needs, many people come together at particular place and construct houses in a particular way, which is known as settlement.
2. Settlements vary in shape and size. It could be small and sparsely spaced and they may also be large and closely spaced.
3. Because of some physical land forms or some man made features different type of settlements developed.
4. Subsequently with the development of the settlements, the size of the population also increases. This is known as the pattern less settlement.
5. Increasing in population leads to haphazard development of settlement, this is why the houses are built as per convenience and space available.
6. E.g. Settlements in slum areas.
