प्रश्न
Give reason for the following:
When carbon is heated with concentrated sulphuric acid, carbon dioxide is formed.
उत्तर
Hot concentrated sulphuric acid act as a powerful oxidizing agent. Due to heat it decomposes to form nascent oxygen which helps in oxidation of carbon to carbon dioxide.
\[\ce{H2SO4 -> H2O + SO2 + [O]}\]
\[\ce{C + 2[O] -> CO2}\]
