प्रश्न
Give reason for the following:
When diluting concentrated sulphuric acid, the acid should be added to water and not water to the acid.
उत्तर
When water is added to concentrated sulphuric acid the heat evolved may be sufficient to raise the temperature of water to its boiling point. This may throw acid violently out of the container. Thus concentrated sulphuric acid is diluted by adding a small amount of sulphuric acid to large amount of water.
