प्रश्न
Halophytes may show cell pressure very much higher than atmospheric pressure. Explain how this can happen?
उत्तर
The plants that are adapted to live in saline water are called halophytes. In this condition, the water potential of the plant cell is more than the soil. So the plant can face the low water availability condition and proceeds to water stress. However, these plants are adapted in such a way that they can sustain this condition. Mainly the sodium and potassium in the excess salt are stored in the vacuoles of these plants. So the purcell pressure and ambient pressure is sustained by the plant.
