प्रश्न
How is the size of a nucleus found experimentally? Write the relation between the radius and mass number of a nucleus.
उत्तर
Nucleus: Through research on the scattering of α-particles by atoms, Lord Rutherford and his colleagues made the initial discovery of it in 1911. He discovered that the scattering finding could be explained if atoms were made up of an electron-orbiting small central massive and positive core. The findings of the experiment showed that the nucleus is 10,000 times smaller than an atom and has a size on the order of 10-14 metres. The number of protons and neutrons is given if the nucleus contains N neutrons.
A = Z + N
A → Mass Number
N →Neutrons
Z →Protons
Actually, the mass number is the integer closest to the nuclear mass.
