प्रश्न
“Organic Farming is the need of the hour to promote sustainable development but, has its own limitations.”
Elaborate any two advantages and limitations each of organic farming in the light of the above statement.
उत्तर
Advantages of Organic Farming:
- Sustains soil fertility: Organic farming does not utilize toxic pesticides or chemicals derived from petroleum. It combines animal manure and composts created from leftover fruits, vegetables, and leaves, among other things, to help maintain soil fertility.
- Eco-friendly: It does not employ synthetic chemicals. By increasing the nitrate content of ground water, these chemical fertilizers damage it. Nitrate is a toxic substance that pollutes the environment. As a result, organic farming is environmentally friendly.
Limitations of Organic Farming:
- High Cost: Organic items have a high cost per unit of output and a low yield since they take longer to grow and require a lot of labor. As a result, small and marginal farmers are unable to afford organic farming.
-
Shorter Shelf Life: Organic items have a lower shelf life than chemical-based products because organic products do not employ preservatives. They are tough to keep for an extended period.
Based on the preceding, we may conclude that, despite its limits, organic farming is urgently necessary for promoting sustainable development.
