The following three variables influence the migration of migrants into metropolitan areas:

1. Employment: People move from rural to urban areas in huge numbers in pursuit of work. Not every resident in a rural area has access to employment due to the area's agricultural background. On the other hand, employment opportunities in transportation, industry, and services are abundant in urban regions.
2. Education: It is yet another important variable in migration. Most rural areas lack access to higher education, and those who live there must go to urban cities in order to receive an education.
3. Lack of security: People leave their homes due to interethnic clashes and political unrest. Following a protracted ethnic strife, many Kashmiri Pandits were forced to flee their homeland.
