i. To maintain international peace and security; to take collective measures for the prevention and removal of threats to peace and to suppress acts of aggression or other breaches of the peace.
ii. To develop friendly relations among nations of the world based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of people.
iii. To achieve international cooperation in solving international economic, social, cultural or humanitarian problems and encouraging respect of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
iv. To be a centre for harmonising the actions of nations in the attainment of these common ends.
