What are antibiotics?

Antibiotics are medicines that contain chemical compounds produced by some microorganisms and kill or inhibit the growth of hazardous or disease-causing germs. Antibiotics are highly beneficial since they protect us from microbial illnesses and disorders. They are formed of fungi and bacteria. Alexander Fleming discovered the first antibiotic, penicillin, in 1929. Many antibiotics are now used to treat a wide range of human and animal ailments. Some commonly used antibiotics include streptomycin, tetracycline, and erythromycin.
