What is the purpose of heading the ball?

It means clearing the ball with the head. An attacker heads the ball to re-direct it towards the net. A defender heads the ball to deflect it away from the goal. It is done when the ball is about shoulder's high or above. It is used for giving pass, trapping the ball and scoring a goal. He must keep his eyes fixed on the ball while heading.
- Forehead is used in heading, bend the elbows and hands should be on the side of the body.
- Maintain a balance with both hands.
- Bring the head back and hit the ball with a jerk.
- A high ball should be hit by jumping.
