प्रश्न

With the help of an example, explain how does the feedback mechanism regulate the hormone secretion.

संक्षेप में उत्तर

उत्तर

Our bodies have a feedback system that works to keep hormonal levels where they should be. The feedback system is triggered by an alteration in our body's hormone levels, either up or down. The body contains two different kinds of feedback systems:

(i) A mechanism for positive feedback.

(ii) A system of unfavourable feedback

Hormone secretion is stimulated and increased by positive feedback. The hormone's production is stopped and inhibited by negative feedback. For instance, eating foods high in carbohydrates causes the blood glucose level to rise. The pancreas secretes insulin as blood glucose levels rise. The cells will receive a signal from this insulin to absorb the blood glucose. Consequently, the blood's glucose level dropped. A positive comment would be something like this. As more and more glucose is transferred within the cell if insulin is still present in the circulation, there will be a shortage of glucose in the blood. Negative feedback is therefore produced as a result of low glucose levels, which would hinder the blood from producing insulin.
