- The large-scale communal riots that engulfed the whole country convinced all that the only solution to the communal problem lay in the Partition of India.
- The leaders felt that further delay in the transfer of power could find India in the midst of a Civil War.
- The League joined the Interim Government out of opposition or non-cooperation. Working with the League had persuaded Congress that it could not have a shared government with the League.
- A federation with a weak central was the only substitute for the Partition. A strong central authority in a smaller India was preferable to one in a large state with a weak centre.
