Algae:

Algae can range in size from about 10 millimetres to 100 millimetres. They live in aquatic environments, making them aquatic organisms. Algae are eukaryotic, which means their cells have a nucleus. They are autotrophic, meaning they make their own food through photosynthesis. Photosynthesis occurs in chloroplasts within their cells.

Types of algae:

  1. Unicellular Algae: Some species, like Chlorella and Chlamydomonas, are made up of a single cell.
  2. Multicellular Algae: Although some algae are unicellular, most species are multicellular and can be seen without a microscope.
