Equivalent rational numbers:

If the numerator and denominator of a rational number are multiplied or divided by a non-zero integer, we get a rational number which is said to be equivalent to the given rational number.

For example, consider the rational number -23.

-23=-2×23×2=-46.

We see that (-23) is the same as -46.

-23=(-2)×(-5)3×(-5)=10-15.

So, -23 is also the same as 10-15.

Thus,

-23=-46=10-15

Such rational numbers that are equal to each other are said to be equivalent to each other.

10-15=10÷(-5)(-15)÷(-5)=-23,-1224=-12÷1224÷12=-12.
