Definition

Reciprocal of a fraction: The non-zero numbers whose product with each other is 1, are called the reciprocals of each other.

Notes

Reciprocal of a fraction:

The number `2/1` can be obtained by interchanging the numerator and denominator of `1/2  "or by inverting"  1/2`.

A reciprocal of a fraction is obtained by inverting it upside down.

The reciprocal of `9/5 "is" 5/9`.

`7 xx 1/7 = 1`
`5/4 xx 4/5 = 1`
`1/9 xx 9 = 1`
`2/7 xx 7/2 = 1`

The non-zero numbers whose product with each other is 1, are called the reciprocals of each other.

`2/3 × 3/2 = (2 × 3)/(3 × 2) = 6/6 = 1`.

Notes

Reciprocal Or Multiplicative Inverse of Rational Numbers:

`(- 5)/7 "must be multiplied by" 7/(- 5)` so as to get the product 1.

`7/(- 5) "is the reciprocal of" (- 5)/7`.

`7/-5 xx -5/7 = 1`.

The reciprocal or multiplicative inverse of  another non-zero rational number `a/b` if ` a/b xx c/d = 1`.
