Param Vir Chakra: Our Heroes

Summary

This chapter is about a great honour called the Param Vir Chakra, which only 21 people have received to date. They have given us a lot of information about it, how it is made, and what it resembles. It is made from bronze and has a fitted swivel mounting. It has a plain purple ribbon. It has the national emblem on the front, and the words Param Vir Chakra are engraved in Hindi and English, with two lotus flowers in between.

The Param Vir Chakra was crafted by the talented Savitribai Khanolkar, a European woman who, upon marrying Vikram Khanolkar, became an Indian citizen. Her deep understanding and appreciation of Indian arts and culture, coupled with her fluency in Hindi, Sanskrit, and Marathi, enabled her to design this prestigious medal.

They have given us the names of all 21 award winners, an example of one of the award winners, and a summary of his story.
