प्रश्न

A transformer has 400 turns in the primary winding and 10 turns in the secondary winding. The primary e.m.f. is 250 V and the primary current is 2.0 A. calculate:
(a) The secondary voltage,
(b) The secondary current, assuming 100% efficiency.

उत्तर

Since, the number of turns in the primary is more than the no. of turns in the secondary it is a step-down transformer.

Given, NP= 400, Ns = 10, EP=250 V, IP= 2A

(a) Let Es be the secondary voltage.

We know that for transformer turn ratio `"N"_"s"/"N"_"p" = "I"_"p"/"I"_"s" = "E"_"s"/"E"_"P"`

E= `"N"_"s"/"N"_"P" xx "E"_"P" = 10/400 xx 250 = 6.25 "V"`

(b) Let Is be the current though secondary

We know that for transformer turn ratio `"N"_"s"/"N"_"P" = "I"_"P"/"I"_"s"`

I = `400/10 xx 2= 80 "A"`

The direction of current in the coil at one end of an electromagnet is clockwise. This end of the electromagnet will be:

(a) north pole
(b) east pole
(c) south pole
(d) west pole

An induced current is produced when a magnet is moved into a coil. The magnitude of induced current does not depend on:

(a) the speed with which the magnet is moved
(b) the number of turns of the coil
(c) the resistivity of the wire of the coil
(d) the strength of the magnet

The switches in figure (a) and (b) are closed at t = 0 and reopened after a long time at t = t0.

(a) The charge on C just after t = 0 is εC.
(b) The charge on C long after t = 0 is εC.
(c) The current in L just before t = t0 is ε/R.
(d) The current in L long after t = t0 is ε/R.

Why do you mean by turns ratio of a transformer? Can it work with D.C.?

Fill in the blanks by writing (i) Only soft iron, (ii) Only steel, (iii) Both soft-iron and steel for the material of core and/or magnet.

Transformer______.

Draw a labelled diagram to show how an electromagnet is made.

Why soft iron is preferred to be used as the core of the electromagnet of an electric bell?

The magnetic flux passing through a coil perpendicular to its plane is a function of time and is given by OB = (2t3 + 4t2 + 8t + 8) Wb. If the resistance of the coil is 5 Ω, determine the induced current through the coil at a time t = 3 second.

A coil of 200 turns carries a current of 0.4 A. If the magnetic flux of 4 mWb is linked with each turn of the coil, find the inductance of the coil.

What should be the core of an electromagnet?
