Sexually transmitted diseases are the diseases which are transmitted through sexual contact from a healthy person to an infected person. . These diseases are caused by bacteria or viruses.
STDs caused by bacteria are gonorrhoea, syphilis.
STDs caused by viruses are genital warts, herpes, HIV-AIDS (Human Immunodeficiency Virus cause Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome).
The ways to prevent transmission of STDs are:
- Use of mechanical barriers such as condom for the penis during sex.
- Avoid sex with unknown partners/multiple partners
- Get vaccination for hepatitis B.
