Effects of different types of pollution on environment are given below:
- Effects of Air Pollution:
- Disorders of respiratory system-bronchitis, asthma, inflammation in airways, lung cancer, etc.
- Headache and strain on heart, chest pain
- Impairment of reflexes, and vision
- Retardation of an unborn child and mental development.
- Allergies and wheezing.
- Burning sensation in eyes and irritation.
- Insomnia, tremor, gingivitis.
- Loss of memory.
- Damage to kidneys, brain and central nervous system.
- Effects of Water Pollution:
- Infectious diseases caused by micro-organisms through water.
- Waterborne diseases like cholera, dysentery, and hepatitis can be transmitted through contaminated water sources. Pollutants such as heavy metals (e.g., lead and mercury) can accumulate in the food chain, causing serious health concerns to humans who consume contaminated water or seafood.
- Effects of Soil Pollution:
- Soil pollutants enter the food chain. Lead can cause severe brain damage. Arsenic causes severe damage of skin. Molybdenum causes abnormality in bones, diarrhoea, anaemia, gout, etc.
- Chromium causes respiratory distress, lung cancer and dermatitis. Boron causes vomiting, diarrhoea, and lethargy.
- Pesticides that enter food grains through soil may lead to headaches, nausea, fever, fatigue, dizziness, blindness, lever and kidney dysfunction, and cancer.
- Effects of Noise Pollution:
- Damage to hearing
- Rise in blood pressure
- Increase in heartbeat
- Visual disturbance
- Some other effects of noise pollution are as follows:
- Auditory fatigue related to whistling and buzzing in the ears
- Deafness
- Interference with speech communications
- Psychological changes such as short temper, impatience, mental inefficiency
