= `((x + 2)(x + 4))/((x + 2)(x^2 - 2x + 4)) - 3/(x^2 - 2x + 4)`
= `(x + 4)/(x^2 - 2x + 4) - 3/(x^2 - 2x + 4)`
= `(x + 4 - 3)/(x^2 - 2x + 4)`
