  1. The world economic order in which India found itself was based on gross inequalities and exploitation and the requirements of their development made fundamental changes in the world economic order a necessity. It was in these conditions that NAM emerged and shaped itself.
  2. Two reasons for the loss of its relevance are because of it being an international movement and being the core of India’s foreign policy.
  3. NAM has become an international movement because it is based on a resolve to democratise the international system. It provides an alternative world to redress the existing inequalities in various countries, especially the newly independent countries.
