2. (a) The total number of grid squares in the area enclosed within the Eastings 68 and 70 and the Northings 21 and 23 is 4. The area of one grid square 1 km × 1 km = 1 sq. km. Therefore, the area covered by 4 grid squares is 4 sq. km.
   (b) St. Mary's High School lies in north-east direction from Gautam Maharishi Mandir.
3. (a) Map distance is 4.2 cm. Since scale is 2 cm = 1 km, the actual distance is 2.1 km.
   (b) Abu is an administrative area as is indicated by the location of a number government buildings like Raj Bhawan, Limdi House, Rest Houses, Circuit House and Police Station and its connectivity with other area through metalled roads.
4. (a) •501 in grid square 6421 refers to the Spot Height. It is the surveyed height of 501 m of that spot on the map.
   (b) The yellow area in the south-east corner of the map indicates that it is a plain, cultivated area. This is because there are no contours in this area which show that it is a plain there is a river as is indicated by the word Nadi; a canal and a slice, which are used for irrigation.
5. (a) The drainage pattern in grid square 6220 is trellised whereas it is dendritic in grid square 6817.
   (b) In grid square 6320 the slope is gradual and gentle as the contour lines are drawn far apart from each other whereas in grid square 6622, the slope is steep as contour lines are drawn very close to each other.
