प्रश्न

What are the suggested reasons for population explosion?

थोडक्यात उत्तर

उत्तर

  1. Population explosion
The world population is increasing at the rate of 2 persons per second, or 2,00,000 persons per day, or 60 lakh persons per month, or approximately seven crore per year. This rapid increase in population is called a population explosion. This is due to the decrease in death rate and the lack of desired decrease in birth rate.
  2. Increase in population and its causes
The increased population in any area at a given time is called population growth. The following are the reasons for population growth –
    1. Due to health facilities, the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) have decreased.
    2. Increase in the number of reproductive individuals.
    3. Improvement in the standard of living due to good health services.
    4. Due to illiteracy, people do not have knowledge of the means of family planning and the methods of family planning are not fully adopted.
    5. Increase in the production of food grains due to scientific and technological progress.
    6. Many epidemics can be eradicated through community health programmes.
    7. Due to low social status, most poor people believe that the more children they have, the more money they will earn by working.
    8. Due to social customs, couples keep having children because of the desire to have a son.
