प्रश्न

Why first ionization enthalpy of chromium is lower than that of zinc?

लघु उत्तर

उत्तर

The electron configuration of chromium \[\ce{(Cr)}\] is \[\ce{[Ar]3d^5 4s^1}\] . Because half-filled or fully-filled orbitals have greater stability, removing an electron from the 4s orbital is simpler than removing one from the half-filled 3d orbital. As a result, chromium has lower initial ionisation energy than zinc.
