The word anxiety comes from the Latin word anxiety, which implies an unpleasant or troubled mind. Anxiety is a condition in which a person feels anxious and uneasy for a long period for no apparent reason.
Some causes contributing to anxiety are as follows:
- Genetic factors: Individuals who have a family history of anxiety that is if they have anyone in the family who was or is suffering from anxiety issues, such individuals are at a higher risk.
- Brain chemistry: Imbalance of certain neurotransmitters
- Traumatic events like abuse, rape, or sudden death of any of the parent
- Parental divorce
- Stress about college exams
Anxiety can be a matter of concern when it starts affecting and interfering with the functions of the daily life of the individual.
