The impact of Sant Basaveshwar’s work on society is stated as follows:
- Sant Basaveshwar was a proponent of the Bhakti movement and spread the lingayat stream of thought in Karnataka.
- He believed in ‘Kayakave Kailas’ which means ‘Work is Kailas’ (Work is worship).
- He was against the caste system and rather stressed the dignity of labor. Men and women of all castes and creeds participated in his movement. He conducted the religious discussions in the hall ‘Anubhava Mantapa’.
- Through the medium of ‘Vachana’ literature, he conveyed his teachings in Kannada, the language of the people. His followers composed their work in Marathi as well. Hence, we can say that his work had a great impact on society as a whole.
