Question
A bought `3 3/4` kg of wheat and `2 1/2` kg of rice. Find the total weight of wheat and rice bought.
Solution
Weight of wheat = `3 3/4` kg = `15/4` kg
Weight of rice = `2 1/2` kg = `5/2` kg
∴ Total weight of wheat and rice
`= 15/4 + 5/2`
`= (15 xx 1)/(4 xx 1) + (5 xx 2)/(2 xx 2)` (∵ L.C.M. of 4 and 2 = 4)
`= (15 + 10)/4 = 25/4` kg
`= 6 1/4` kg
